I've had a passion for teaching ever since I was a child. We will be students for some time in our lives, but we can't all be teachers. For me, being a teacher requires a lot more than graduating with an education degree -- it needs love for the craft and a passion to see your students do well not only for the present but for the future. When I was younger, way younger (around 7 years old), I loved role-playing. At times I was a store owner, a doting mother and housewife (minus the husband, of course) or a cab driver. But I loved the role of being a school teacher best, especially when I was with playmates. I'd conduct an impromptu lesson, give my "pupils" some exercises and assess their progress.
Through the years, I still nurture that childhood dream of teaching in my heart. I was able to practice informal teaching by being a part-time (academic) tutor within the span of eight years, with focus on elementary Mathematics and English. For me, it's a very fruitful endeavor. The very thought that my student gets a clearer and positive understanding of the lessons I teach is already rewarding. It gives me a special kind of fulfillment, a very happy heart and a heightened motivation to pursue and give my best. Though I have traveled a different career path, I still have a yearning to teach.
I fervently hope that someday I could be given the opportunity to teach. By then, I would already be living a dream.
